With cases of food poisoning reaching 12,000 per day, Australia’s food safety laws were changed and everyone who handles food must now be trained in food safety. This applies to businesses as well as volunteer organisations like Meals on Wheels.
Many of our clients suffer from chronic medical conditions, which makes them particularly vulnerable to foodborne diseases. So, food safety has always been of paramount importance at Meals on Wheels. To service these clients, Meals on Wheels relies heavily on Volunteers and we are committed to ensuring they have the training and support they need.
The Meals on Wheels Food Safety Certificate Training Course was developed to deliver on this commitment. Having a standard online Course for the State will ensure our volunteers receive the training required by law and that it’s done consistently.
We appreciate the work our Volunteers do can differ from one Region/Depot to the next. So, the first 8 Chapters were deliberately designed to be suitable for all Volunteers – those who prepare, cook and deliver meals.
Chapter 9 is an optional chapter for those involved with food safety reports and food safety program audits.
The training material is a mix of easy-to-understand written content, diagrams, high-quality images, and instructional videos. Once enrolled, you have 1 month to complete the Course and the training is self-paced and available online 24/7 using a PC, laptop, smart phone, or smart device
Each Chapter will take about 20 t0 30 minutes to complete and comes with a FACT SHEET you can download and keep. There’s a short Quiz as well and you’ll need to achieve 100% but there is no limit to the number of attempts.
Successful completion of this Course is recognised and rewarded with an official Food Safety Training Certificate. This Certificate is your proof of your compliance with Standard 3.2.2A of the Food Standards Code.
This Course is not mandatory, but a resource to support all Meals on Wheels Regions/Depots across NSW.
